As of 2026, the City of Spokane will conduct written testing directly and will no longer use PST scores for firefighter recruitment.

Salary & Benefits

Entry-level firefighters start at step 1 pay and increase to the next step on their work anniversary for the first 3 years. After five years of service, firefighters receive another step with longevity pay increases every 5 years after that. Firefighters working for a special unit or position will also receive a percentage increase for working in that specialty.

Step 2: Take and pass the in-person City of Spokane written test.

Step 3: Fill out your personal history statment and take and pass the CPAT from an IAFF-accredited agency.
