Firefighter salary and benefits for the City of Spokane are designed to support your well-being and provide stability throughout your career. Salary
Entry-level firefighters start out at step 1 pay and increase to the next step on their work anniversary for the first 3 years. After five years of service, firefighters receive another step with longevity pay increases every 5 years after that. Firefighters working for a special unit or position will also receive a percentage increase for working in that specialty.
* Salaries shown represent the completion of number of years of service. For example, at completion of their 2nd year of service, firefighters will receive $90,172 salary.

Firefighters work a schedule of 24 hours on and 72 hours off. This averages to 42 hours a week.

Minimum Staffing
Per the current Local 29 contract, the City of Spokane shall use its best efforts to maintain a minumum quantity of staff on duty at all times.
Provided Uniforms

Vacation is earned for use in the following calendar year.
– Up to 4 shifts your first year of service
– 7 shifts after 2 years of service
– 9 shifts after 9 years of service
– 11 shifts after 19 years of service
Employees are permitted to trade shifts.
Accrual of 7 hours sick time on a bi-weekly basis with a maximum of 1,248 hours.

Applicants are not required to possess an EMT certification to apply. New hires will receive EMT certification at the end of the Academy
